SMART MEDIA 2001-2004

- with BT Innovation & Development, Adastral Park, Future Content Group, BT Research & Venturing (Ian Kegel, Martin Russ)

BT Future Content Group developed the Flexible Media Toolkit for real-time editing of video into longer and shorter sequences over broadband, in a semi-automated process. DIGIS collaborated in the research and development process, designing underlying narrative structures and ways of handling clips as well as the graphical user interface. DIGIS MPhil students tested the toolkit, using it to make projects, analysing results and producing reports on functionality and usability. BT researchers and developers participated in the workshops and familiarised participants with the tools, also acquiring knowledge of how digital production and post-production work. The toolkit served as a departure point for the NM2 system developed 2004 – 2007 ( ).
